STADS is once again up and running, and you can register for spring classes and exams. The registration deadline is Thursday 7 November at 23.59.
As a general rule, each re-examination is offered once a year. If you do not take the re-examination immediately after the ordinary exam, you must wait a year to go to re-examination.
The first option to take a re-examination is the re-exam that take place immediately after the ordinary exam.
You can find the deadline for registration in your exam schedule
The curriculum is the same as for the ordinary exam.
If the academic regulations describe an exam requirement and you have not already met it by previous examination attempt, the deadline for submitting material to the teacher is the same as the deadline for registration for the re-examination.
As a general rule, the re-examination for each course is only offered once a year - i.e. in the semester, where teaching and ordinary exam also takes place.
Only selected re-examinations are offered in spring and autumn semesters. See above which exams this applies to.
The re-examination is based on the syllabus from the most recently offered course. If you go to re-examination more than a year after you have followed a course, you should be aware that there may have been changes in the syllabus you are to be examined in. If you are to be examined in a new syllabus, you can get access to the new syllabus by sending an email to the study centre Arts.
If the academic regulations describe an exam requirement, and you have not already met it in previous examination attempt, the deadline for fulfilling this is:
You have the opportunity to take re-examinations during semesters, where, according to your academic regulations, there is also offered teaching and ordinary exam in the course.
You can register in the following periods:
*The deadline depends on the specific exam and also applies even if you have not taken the ordinary exam in the semester in question. For Some exams, the deadline is earlier than 10 May/10 November - we therefore recommend that you check the exam schedule.

As a general rule, you have three attempts to pass each exam in your degree programme.
If you fail to turn up or fail to pass the ordinary exam at the end of a course, you will have used one examination attempt. You will then have the opportunity to register for re-examination.
If you use all three examination attempts without passing the course, you will be withdrawn from the university. However, in exceptional circumstances you can apply for dispensation to be granted a fourth examination attempt.
Find out more about applying for dispensation
The possibility to use three examination attempts for each exam is limited by other rules such as those regarding the commencement of studies exam, the first-year exam and your maximum degree completion time.
For example, if you have not passed the exams included in the first-year exam by the end of your first academic year, you will lose the right to use the remaining attempts to pass the exams. This means that you lose the right to further examination attempts if the deadline has expired.
Please note that re-examinations may take a different form than the ordinary exams. If this is the case, re-examinations will be described in the academic regulations as exam option 2.
Your syllabus is connected to the course you have followed and is valid until the course* is offered again.
This means that your syllabus remains valid after the teaching on your course has finished – until the ordinary exam and the re-examination.
If a re-examination is offered in the following semester’s exam period, your syllabus is also valid for this re-examination.
If you take the re-examination in later semesters, the syllabus will usually follow the most recently offered course.
* Special rules apply for the reuse of syllabuses in connection with courses with changing topics (both compulsory and elective) and courses in academic regulations being phased out. Read more about the rules of reusing syllabusses.
If you become ill in connection with an exam, it is important that you contact your doctor so that you can later prove that you were ill during the exam period.
This means that you have the opportunity to apply for exemption to be granted an additional examination attempt if you have used all three examination attempts without passing.
If you become ill while writing your thesis, you can apply for exemption from the submission deadline rule. You must apply before your submission deadline.

If you are registered for a re-examination which, according to your academic regulations, is conducted in the same way as the ordinary exam, you can move your re-examination to the ordinary exam period.
This will typically be in December/January for courses in the autumn and in May/June for courses in the spring.
What you need to do:
You must contact Study Centre Arts no later than four weeks before the date of the ordinary exam which is stated in the exam timetable for your degree programme.
Please note that your registration only applies to the ordinary exam and not participation in the course.
If the academic regulations describe an exam requirement, but you have not already fulfilled it at previous examination attempt, you must meet it before you can take re-examination. See the deadline below.
In connection with re-exams that take place immediately after the ordinary exam, you fulfil the prerequisites by submitting the relevant material to your teacher by the deadline for registering for the re-exam.
In connection with re-exams that take place in one of the following semesters, you fulfil the prerequisites by submitting the relevant material to your teacher no later than
Please find more information about prerequisites for taking exams.
If you were unable to meet the registration deadline for exams due to special circumstances, you must apply for registration after the normal deadline.
You can apply for registration after the normal deadline by sending an application for dispensation via mystudies.au.dk.
If you fail an exam, or do not attend it (in which case, you also fail it), you can register for the re-examination.
You can register by filling out a form to the Study Center Arts, within the given registration-period, which can be found on the Exam Plan.
The re-exam will most likely take place in February/August and dates will be published in the Exam Plan.
You can read more about registration for the re-exam, as well as rules regarding the re-exam above.
